Photography I

A Study of the Photographic Media using traditional
black & white darkroom development

What you'll learn...

My goal is that each student will leave this class having a new appreciation for the world in which they live. Being able to visually "see" new details, tonal value, and new avenues of expression through the lens of a camera.
My goal is that the images will be as memorable and heartwarming as the moment itself.

Each photograph is designed with artistic elements and compositional design. We begin to understand these during this course and students are expected to use them consistently throughout the projects.

Images are taken using 35mm film manually operated cameras, and the images transposed through each step of the process - learning to correctly determine film exposure, develop the film, and print the photographs using adequate time.

Each student is also expected to maintain an up-to-date physical sketchbook, and a professional-looking online portfolio and website throughout the course.

This course is intended to be the introduction to all subsequent courses taken at Parish in the Upper School Photography program and serves as a basis for understanding camera settings and image development using light.
