The photography program at Parish Episcopal School is led by instructor, Shastan Kuschke. Shastan also serves as Yearbook adviser, Senior class coordinator for Legacy events and class of 2020 academic advisor. Shastan holds a Master’s in Education from Virginia Commonwealth University (2012) and a Bachelor’s in Studio Art from Randolph-Macon Woman’s College (2006). She is passionate about curriculum design and construction, program development, student project-based and student-centered learning techniques, and seeking ways to improve overall community culture. Shastan’s students annually participate, and succeed, in photographic and publication competitions. The school's yearbook has maintained a First Place national ranking (ASPA) for three years, and her students' AP scores each year finish in the 4 - 5 range.

Shastan is a member of the JEA, NAEA and NFHA organizations; each year she participates in events and workshops with the Irving Art Association, and she runs her own handmade tableware business: The Zephyr Press.
